british army were in the wrong - i i think we all get that now
but the circumstances were extraordinary and troops were following orders in what both sides now concede was a war
cant now prosecute one without the other

I suspect some sealed papers are due to be released that may well incriminate senior politician/civil servant who is still alive.
What better way to ensure they never pay for thei actions than prosecuting and convicting someone in the thick of it, who probably felt his life (not pension/promotion) at risk for that split second.

With sincere condolences to innocent lives lost but to punish Soldier F , nearly 40 years later is a fucking joke. For the Victims family and the Soldier.
Yesterday I was with many veterans who served in Ireland and the Falkland Islands War at the Veterans' Mental Health Conference in London at Kings College that Prince Harry attended.
I fear the floodgates will open now. This can affect how British Soldiers respond in Afghanistan and Iraq , of course discipline and rules of engagement are drummed into Soldiers, but the rules of engagement requires a split second response or reaction. In war and conflicts, errors and bad shit happens.
Solider F has more than likely lived these past nearly 40 years full of guilt or regret. He is human.
I do not see the punishment of him , or understand why the families of victims think Justice is finally served. The troubles in Ireland , both the IRA and British Government made terrible errors.
The families should seek recognition from the Government of the errors made on Bloody Sunday.
Not use Solider F ,an old man now , a scapegoat.
All cunts ,the Government and the IRA.
The person facing trial should be Tony Fucking Blair for the loss of many British Soldiers and his murderous decision making and leadership in modern times.
Ireland and the troubles should be left in the history books, lessons learnt , and moving forward for continued peace rather than always looking back.

I once taught an ex-Tommy who had been shot and paralysed from the waist down while on duty in Belfast. He told me that I would be shocked to know what was going on in Northern Island, in terms of covert retribution by the British Army and/or RUC. So I have little difficulty to believe that the troops on Bloody Sunday were quick to lose discipline, and exact some revenge on the groups whom they saw as causing misery and death to both citizens and to their own colleagues over many years in the province.
Having said that, there is no justification in prosecuting now for what was, in all but name, a war crime, when guarantees have been given to the likes of the Hyde Park bomber that he will not be pursued.

I tip my hat off to you mate. That is probably one of the most honest, balanced and factually correct opinion's I have ever heard on this subject.
What the British soldiers did on that day was completely wrong and the families involved should rightly receive justice.
However two wrongs don't make a right and as much as I am ashamed of those actions I am also disgusted that the IRA seem to glorify in bombing innocent people including children who had nothing to do with any of this.
